yay or nee: spring fashion trends 2026

look, we scroll through the same trend roundups you do. here's our honest take on what's showing up everywhere this season — and whether it's actually worth closet space.

20 March 2026

this is the intro of the blog. it should just be a short little paragraph (or long) before any of the main content starts (or at least until a heading is used). the thing about asymmetry is that it makes a basic outfit look like you did something intentional, even if you literally just grabbed whatever was closest to the door. a draped top that dips lower on one side. a skirt with a diagonal hem. it reads as "i have a creative eye" when really you just have a membership to a shared closet and good taste in borrowing.

asymmetrical cuts — yay

one hemline higher than the other. one shoulder doing all the work while the other one just hangs out. asymmetrical cuts are back and honestly? they never really felt gone.

the thing about asymmetry is that it makes a basic outfit look like you did something intentional, even if you literally just grabbed whatever was closest to the door. a draped top that dips lower on one side. a skirt with a diagonal hem. it reads as "i have a creative eye" when really you just have a membership to a shared closet and good taste in borrowing.

verdict: hard yay. this trend works on basically every body type and makes getting dressed feel slightly more exciting than it has any right to.

floral print — nee (with exceptions)

before you come for us — we know. florals for spring are not groundbreaking. someone somewhere is making a miranda priestly face right now and honestly, fair.

the problem isn't floral print itself. it's that every fast fashion brand pumps out the same tiny ditsy floral on the same boxy dress and calls it a personality. if you're going floral this spring, go big. oversized botanicals. dark backgrounds. prints that look like someone's moody grandmother painted them at 2am. those we respect.

verdict: nee to the generic stuff. a cautious yay to florals that actually have something going on.

military jackets — yay

structured shoulders, olive green, brass buttons, pockets that can actually hold things — the military jacket is having another moment and we are not mad about it.

what makes this trend work in 2026 is that people have mostly stopped trying to make it look "cute" and are just letting it be what it is: a jacket that looks good over literally anything. over a slip dress. over a hoodie. over your pajamas when you run to the albert heijn because you forgot milk again.

it's one of those pieces that earns its place in a wardrobe by being useful, which is basically our whole philosophy here at demat.

verdict: yay. always yay. this is a forever trend pretending to be seasonal.

satin & silk scarves — yay

the scarf thing keeps growing and we keep being surprised by it. tied around a bag handle. knotted at the neck like a french film character. wrapped in your hair. used as an actual top if you're bold enough.

what we like about this trend is the cost-per-wear math. one scarf, seventeen ways to use it. that's the kind of versatility that makes our shared closet heart sing. you don't need to own twelve scarves — you need access to twelve scarves, and then you rotate through them like the unbothered person you aspire to be.

verdict: enthusiastic yay. low commitment, high reward. the perfect "i didn't try that hard" accessory for someone who definitely tried a little.

the bottom line

three out of four isn't bad, spring. we'll take it.

want to try any of these trends without the commitment of buying something you'll wear twice? that's kind of our whole thing. come borrow it, see if it works, return it when you're over it. no guilt, no clutter, no regrets.

well, maybe some regrets. but not about your wardrobe.
